I know shape wear can be a very touchy subject in the plus community. Let me just say whether or not you wear it is a personal choice, but as for me and my house; I’m always going with the shape wear. For me if is the icing on the cake, that takes an outfit from just ok, to chef’s kiss. I carry a good amount of weight in my stomach and after losing a large amount of weight (and gaining some back) I have loose skin, so slimming my shape is important to me.
I thought this would be a great time, to give you guys a list of my favorites. As you adventure into the journey of shape wear, its important to note that not all products are created equally. I wear different shapers based on my outfit and the occasion. Let’s get into the list.
The high-waisted brief is my tried and true old faithful shaper of choice. As a taller girl with a longer torso I love all things high waist. My current high waist brief is from Shapermint. They range in size from small-4X and you can purchase either from their website or from Amazon. It comes in both black and nude, so you can wear it under virtually anything. It easy to get on and off, so I recommend getting your regular size. The compression is around a 4/5, it smoothes very well but it not to restrictive you can’t move or breathe as normal. Price ranges from $19.99-$40 depending on where you purchase.
When I’m wearing dresses, I love the full body shapers with the built in bra. This is the perfect all in one situation. I love the kind that either have the pee holes or snap in the crotch making using the restroom while you are wearing it a breeze. Maindenform has several varieties in this style that I love. This shaper goes by bra sizes and ranges from 36C-42DD and comes in 8 different colors. They nude shade range is hella inclusive for the melanin girls.
Miracle Suit Open Bust Thigh Slimmer
Depending on the outfit, having shape wear that slims the thighs as well as the tummy are necessary. My other favorite element to the Miracle Suit thigh slimmer is that it is a wear your own bra shaper. This what I can wear whatever bra fits my outfit needs and still slim my back, stomach, and thighs. I promise this one needs a gold star. This one ranges in size from S-3X.
Just remember when purchasing shape wear it is imperative to use the companies’ size chart. Universal sizing is not the same across all the brands. If anything you should have your measurements handy so you can get the size you need based on their cut and not just ordering your normal clothing size.
